Born in Yorkshire and received his early education in Lincoln and Louth. Details are scanty. He appears to be one of the retiring types, regular in attendance but, never having taken part in any office, remains somewhat obscure. In 1935 he came to Bristol to take up a post of commercial designer with Mardon, Son and Hall. He lived in Redland. Most of his work shows that excellence of draughtsmanship so often apparent with commercial artists. One of the posters he designed was accepted for the Air Raid Precautions Scheme in 1939. He was very active in the studio until 1948 when he moved to Putney, London, and set up as a freelance artist, specialising mostly in landscapes and architectural subjects. He still retained his membership and in 1952 was still exhibiting at the Savages` Annual Exhibition. He also contributed to Grouse. In the late fifties he moved and set up his studio in Surrey. He resigned in August 1963. We possess about 10 of his evening sketches and one framed picture. (Cecil Broome)
