On leaving school he began his studies at the West of England College of Art, after which he joined the studio of Mardon, Son and Hall, where he met many of the Savage Artists. After working in a couple of advertising agencies he went freelance. Continuing to paint, he developed a soft harmonious style in order to convey the peace and tranquillity of the British countryside, which he loves. Since then he has exhibited both in London and in the provinces, but on one occasion the peace was shattered when one of his pictures was slashed in an exhibition in Chelsea. He was elected an Artist Member of the Bristol Savages in 1983. He rarely, if at all, talks about his work as he strongly believes that the paintings should be allowed to speak for themselves. He became President of the Savages in 1997 and also served as Archivist for the Tribe. He designed the front cover of the Savage Carol Song Book and has produced several illustrations for the Grouse magazine. (R.S.B)
